We Are Kids Emerging Upon Perseverance
Who Are We?
WUM was established in 2007 with a mission to help socially and economically at-risk youth become tomorrow’s leaders through education and mentoring services. WUM provides services to at-risk youth between the ages of 6 – 17 and youth that are in the Juvenile Justice System residing in Orange County and surrounding communities. WUM has provided mentoring services to over 1,000 at-risk youth and many have graduated from high school, enrolled in college, enlisted in the military or have become employed and are now a productive citizen within the community.
Our Mission
Our mission is to help socially, and economically at-risk youth become tomorrow's leaders within the City of Orlando and Orange County School Districts. Many come from single-parent and low-income families with a history of welfare dependence. Most are first-time generation high school graduates and first-generation college entrants. We match our youth with professional adult mentors who will provide them with continuous guidance, leadership, and coaching.
The Problem
Many youth in our community suffer from too little support, too few resources, and too much temptation. In most cases, these youth lack education and positive, successful adult role models. Their parents are often uneducated and unable to assist through obstacles.
The Solution
"We are unique because we cater to at-risk youth that will be tomorrow’s leaders. We understand mistakes and promote transformation under any circumstances. No child should be abandoned because only a few have the patience to deal with their nonconforming social behaviors. Our goal is to create a worldwide movement; thus, becoming a household name."
